The Griffith Family Among the "For Your Consideration" GRAMMY Entries

(October 17, 2016 - Franklin, TN) The "For Your Consideration" GRAMMY entries for potential nominations were released Monday, October 17, 2016 with The Griffith Family album, 'Give His Love Away', landing in voting consideration for Best Roots Gospel Album.  This isn’t Tony and Julie Griffith’s only chance at a first-time potential GRAMMY nomination; Tony also co-produced the 'Christmas With T. Graham Brown' album with Award Winning Country Artist T. Graham Brown that will be available in Cracker Barrel stores this Holiday season with Julie contributing background vocals.  'Christmas With T. Graham Brown' is among the "For Your Consideration" albums in the Best Americana Album category.  Grammy voters will have a chance to vote for these projects in determining forthcoming GRAMMY Nominations for 2017 that will be announced on Dec 6, 2016.

Freedom Quartet, one of today’s premier Southern Gospel quartets, has signed with Chapel Valley Music Group’s Inspire label.  This extremely talented group of guys have become fan favorites.  In 2015, Freedom Quartet was awarded the Singing News Favorite New Traditional Quartet of the year.

The Sing Tour Continues To Expand

The Griffith Family will be kicking off their first annual Homecoming Celebration in Gadsden, Alabama on April 29th and 30th of this year featuring Dove Award Winning and GRAMMY Nominated Artists as well as spotlighting new talent.  The two day event will host evening concerts and free artist spotlight performances during the day.

Gadsden, Alabama (March 18 2016) There was a celebration going on at the Wilburn house when they received word that they had accomplished something new.  The outstanding song with a great message for today, "You Asked Him To Leave" garnered the #1 spot on the Singing News Monthly Chart for the month of May.

Penned by Gerald Crabb "You Asked Him To Leave" explains to those people who want to know why bad things are happening in this country and wonder how God could leave us in such bad situations.  The song says that we asked Him to leave our schools and we asked Him to leave our Government and even our society.  The song is pointed and maybe even controversial, but has a message that needs to be told.

John Rulapaugh is pleased to announce the "Family, Fun and Freedom Fest," an ALL NEW gospel music event, scheduled to take place Memorial Day weekend. (Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28, 2016.)

The members of Freedom Quartet each have families steeped in the traditions of Gospel Music, and this event is ALL about FAMILY!  For John Rulapaugh, it began at an early age, singing in church with his mother at the piano.  Dale Shipley was born into a musical family that the Gospel Music world would come to know as "The Song Masters."  Preston Garner’s father sang in quartets until his boys became of age and joined him in "The Supernals," and Burman Porter - well, some things are better experienced than told... you don’t want to miss it!

THE NELONS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE GOSPEL MUSIC HALL OF FAME

Kelly Nelon Clark was notified by the Gospel Music Association that The Nelons will be inducted into the GMA’s "Gospel Music Hall Of Fame."  The GMA Honors banquet will be held on May 10, 2016 in Nashville, TN.  Kelly was sitting in a Disney’s restaurant when she received the news, bringing her to tears.  Kelly shares, "I’m so proud for my father, Rex Nelon, and all his hard work. I am thankful."

Rex Nelon, Founder and patriarch of the Nelons, was one of the senior statesmen in the field of Southern Gospel music.  His career spanned over 40 years of singing gospel music.  Rex was also an outstanding music publisher.  His publishing catalog is a timeless collection of gospel music’s all-time favorite songs like, 'O What a Savior,' 'Come Morning,' 'The Love of God,' 'The Old Country Church,' 'Hide Me Rock of Ages,' 'Sweeter As The Days Go By' and 'If We Never Meet Again.'

Rex’s love of music began as a small boy.  At age 14, while living in Asheville, North Carolina, he won his first singing competition.  The prize was a pair of shoes.  On Monday nights Rex would attend a weekly singing class where he learned to read shaped note music and began to develop a solid ear for singing bass.  He traveled with a few regional groups before he was hired to sing bass with the Homeland Harmony Quartet in 1955.  In 1957, Rex joined The LeFevres, a legendary family group of Southern Gospel Music.  In 1973, he assumed ownership of The LeFevres, which eventually became known as the Rex Nelon Singers.  In 1985 the group changed to a more progressive sound, beginning with their recording, 'In One Accord.' At the same time, they changed their name to the Nelons.  The group’s first number-one song was 'Come Morning' on the Singing News Chart, and was awarded the "Southern Gospel Song of the Decade for the 1980s."

Rex, along with his group, recorded over 25 projects and received 5 Dove Awards, 3 NARAS Grammy nominations and many Singing News Fan Awards.  They appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, Music City Tonight, The 700 Club along with other national television programs.  They were credited with over 13 Top Five radio singles.  In 1987, The Nelons received the "Short Form Music Video of the Year Award" for 'Famine In The Land,' as well as winning the New York Film Festival Award that same year.  In 1997, the Mayor of Atlanta declared May as "Nelons Appreciation Month" later that year, they were presented the Silver Angel Award for 'Glad You’re Here' by Excellence in Media.

Rex died on January 24, 2000 of a massive heart attack at the age of sixty-eight, the night prior to Gaither’s London Homecoming Sing.

Rex mentored his daughter, Kelly Nelon, who continues to carry on the family tradition by heading the group, The Nelons.  It was from the early years of the Rex Nelon Singers that launched the careers of Kelly Nelon Clark, Todd Nelon, Janet Paschal, Karen Peck Gooch, Charlotte Ritchie, Jeff Stice, and Stan Whitmire.

Standing on the legacy of founder and patriarch Rex Nelon; Kelly, Jason, Amber and Autumn continue the family tradition with unparalleled vocal excellence, incomparable harmonies and stunning live performances.  The group has recorded more than 35 albums with chart-topping Southern Gospel classics like "We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown," "Come Morning," and "O For a Thousand Tongues."

The first project is titled "Through It All."

The song list includes "L...O...V...E," "Somewhere (There's A Place For Us)," "A Time For Us," "Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear," "I Can't Help Falling In Love," "Somewhere My Love," "You Don't Know Me," the theme from "Somewhere In Time," and more.

One of the most unique things about both projects is that there is no "background" music on either.  This makes it much more challenging to execute but also to come up with creative arrangements.

Jeff states, "I love playing with dramatic soundtracks and having accompaniment on stage, but you know, sometimes it's nice when it's just me and my piano!"
